Hey Guys

I remember there was some talk on a motor ban on the upper nooch earlier this year. I was wondering if anything ever came of it. I am still interested in getting involved, if anyone is spearheading a motor ban. Or if anyone has any emails I can write to regarding this topic.

Mike

You must contact the fish and wildlife commission, They have a set time each year that you must have your rule change proposal in to them for review. The commision secretary can asist in giving you information on the dates just give them a call at thier office.
THANKS FOR CAREING.

I keep hearing about it but nothing comes of it. Lets hope that this does happen I think the ban should be from black creek up river.

A ban below white bridge is a joke. Whoever came up with that is either a sledder or is totally uninformed.

I'm the one who started the thread earlier this year and unfortunately it got lost in cyberland.

I have every intention of pursuing this on my own when the time comes. If I can't get an outright ban, I'm going to go for a ban above black creek during the winter and an outright ban during the summer on the whole river.

There is a small core of locals who now feel they must sled the thing in June, July and August-ridiculous! To those of you not familiar with this fishery, it's like sleds running up and down the lower 8 miles of the Kalama-picture that to add to the enjoyment of your day on the river!

I've had it.

Eric,

Keep us posted, I think the ban is necessary. I don't know deadlines for submitting a request for a ban. But if you need any help...give a holler.

I couldn't agree more. Sleds don't belong on the Nooch! I've been fishing the Nooch for 12 years now and have seen it get worse during that time. The ban should be from the Black Creek boat ramp.

Fish hard or go home!

A ban would be great on this river from the diversion dam on up. Leave the upper river for the drifters. Nothing worse then Jets in the upper holes being it is a smaller river and having a jet blast around you in a tight slot is not too enjoyable. A moter ban I don't agree with because I use an electric motor on my drift boat due to back problems that limit my rowing time. A motor ban would include electric motors.

I myself have a sled as well as a drift boat and can not for the life of me see what a sled is doing above Black Creek. When the water drops there is not enough room for a drift boat let alone a sled going up full speed thinking he or she owns the river. Many times I have been close enough to reach out with the rod and touch the sled as they blow by with a smile on . Nooch Kid..

Eric,
Can't remember if we ever touched base again, I did talk with WDFW and a I know that they said if you could prove damage is being done to the ecosystem then a ban would be no problem...other than that there feeling was here we go again, one sportsman group going after another. Done correctly it will be no problem...let me know if I can help also.

I know it works in forks, and even in my area. River dicks come back to flat tires! I dont have anything against sleds, its just the guys who use them wrongly. Even in a big river like the sky sleds suck when your in a driftboat. On the other hand being in a sled is nice too. Rippin' small rivers right next to you isn't cool. Take a stand....and a good buck knife.

On the power boat ban on the Nooch... I agree something needs to be done. Any ban needs to go befor the Grays Harbor county commissioners. An upper boundry needs to be established, instead of a total ban, a power restriction needs to be put into place. 50 HP at the power head, not at the pump, power boats 16 ft or less only. Humptulips boundry at the wilderness boat launch, Wynoochee, at Black creek boat launch. Satsop, at the old highway bridge, at Satsop. Then I feel every fisherman has a place to fish. Other issues. WDFW is right, need proof of damage by power boats. As fishermen, we cannot afford to pit one type of fisher against another. There needs to be science behind any attempt for any ban. Safety is a very important issue. Go from there. Don't get into a heated, my river, argument. This is a very hot issue. There were 50 guides working the Nooch for steelhead this past winter, because their ways of fishing, and the pressuer on their streams have them depleated of winter steelhead, and they are
going the only place there are any fish left. With this kind of pressuer these rivers will soon look like those up and down the I 5 corridor. An upper river boundry, a power restriction, and power boat size is a workable solution. Go get them ERIC. Need help?
