Looking for a couple Folbe's for my downrigger setups. After almost losing a rod several times to Scotty Orcas I am making the switch. I will be fishing them in front of the DR on a stalk extension.

My question, regular Folbe's or Folbe JR's? I assume the larger size is designed for larger reels, but the lower profile of the JR's is appealing.

Input appreciated.

If you are using salmon set ups the Juniors are perfect. They both work great, but the jr's fit salmon rods/reels perfectly with very little slop. You will not regret the decision.

I'll second what CM said. I was sold (there's a loss for ya, Arty! wink ) on the jr's the moment I got to use the prototype's on Doc's boat.

The Daiwa in my profile pic is sitting in a jr and there's no slop or movement of the rod/reel at all.

I've only used the original, but have since switched to the Jr's in my sled but have not broke them in yet, until this coming weekend. I like the looks and feel of the Jr's over the originals.....The original rocked so I can only imagine the Jr's will be awesome with my salmon / steelhead rods.Good luck,

SZ

I have the larger size for my halbicore reels. I'm thinking of going JRs for my salmon setups.

If you have a reel with a significantly offset gearbox, it may not allow the Jr to close completely, or only allow closure with the reel crank placed on one side but not the other.

Thanks for the input, all! This will be for Fetha Styx downrigger rods with Shimano charter special lever drag reels, no gearbox offset.

Jr's it is.

I just swapped to JRs in my DB. Couldn't be happier, rods fit nicer. My sturgeon rods even fit. Half tempted to swap out the jet boats quick sets for JRs

Jr until the new Sr comes out.
It won't be anytime soon. Jr's for anything that will fit in them.
