I'm I the only one that sees irony in LLTK efforts to fund salmon recovery in the Salish Sea in one of the areas that consistently take significant numbers of some of the Puget Sound ESA listed Chinook?
While the impacts from northern fisheries in terms of exploitation vary by stock some of the information from Co-manager"s 2010 Puget Sound Chinook for some key stocks indicate there can be significant impacts in BC/Alaskan fisheries (including recreational fishing). For example the northern impacts to Mid-Hood Canal Chinook was estimated to be 16%, for Lake Washington 59%, for Stillaguamish 66.6% and the Elwha 90%.
I appreciate the work that LLTK is doing and attempting but have to wonder about the message this Derby is sending.

Curt I thought the same thing when i saw it, but then again, how many members here go there for their fishing? I have seen a lot of threats to not buy a WA. license, but they'll pay Canada to catch our fish? Bob R

I won't pay to fish Canada, I will pay to fish Alaska. I'll at least keep my money in this country.

I understand the impacts BC/Alaskan fisheries have on "our" local stocks but a question: How to remedy it? I know of one GOP "candidate" who wants to wall off our Southern borders at the moment but could we possibly build an underwater wall to curb these fish from wandering to far north? Me thinks not tonight...
Fish wander that I get>> Fishing off the Northern California for many years we used to see a few "Ivory Kings" down there? Bonked and eaten and I had no qualms> Rather tasty too! Strays from the Fraser on a long journey from home or a wandering Skagit hatchery Chinook?
Quite the predicament todays anglers face unfortunately with volumes written on this too.
On the threshold of 70 right now and glad I saw a few great fisheries in my day. BTW I do travel twice a year to fish Alaska and with the current exchange rate in Canada these days I'm looking into a trip up there at the moment too! Times a wasting!

We need to manage salmon just like we do migratory birds. We don't allow Alaskans to kill all the fowl when they are on their northern migration just like we don't allow Wa to kill them all when they are passing thru. And just like managing migratory birds the first step is outlawing market hunting/fishing. The management model exists it's the political will that doesn't exist. And, unlike migratory birds, we can't physically see them disappear .

Curt Not that I disagree with this but how does one come up with those percentages?

True but unfortunately policing salmon catches as opposed to birds is quite a bit harder. It's a shame.

What's rather ironic about BC/AK "low holing" Washington state fish is the A I numbers in Southeast are out early this year. Last year ADFG missed the May 1st deadline and 2014's numbers (2.7 I believe) were carried over for non-resident fishers 2 Chinook a day for May and June. 2016 Emergency Orders & News Release info came out early this year on Monday morning. Numbers are through the roof from insider info and it is still a 2 a day 6 a season for non-residents! Should I cancel my two trips planned for Southeast to do "The Right Thing?" I wonder..........

I won't pay to fish Canada, I will pay to fish Alaska. I'll at least keep my money in this country. I'll happily fish the BC ocean and catch our fish. Of course I wish I could fish our own ocean to catch our own fish, but that's not looking likely right now. fb

I won't pay to fish Canada, I will pay to fish Alaska. I'll at least keep my money in this country. I on the other hand love discount fishing and will gladly pay 30% less to target the same fish as you.
