Hey, long time no post.
Its time for me to get a new outboard. I have been running a 1986 ish 15 hp 2-stroke yamaha with a 9 1/4 x 9 j prop. Absolutely works great with my little boat on the Snake. Good holeshot on plane quick, upstream top end around 14-15 mph (with just me) 2mph less with another person. Old school teleflex control/remote shift and throttle box (red and black knobs). I have ran it hard for 10 years and its about to puke on me soon.
Really want to get another Yamaha. Was looking into their 20 hp models but apparently they do not make a remote shift and throttle kit for it. So I need a little help getting the right combination for the following constraints:
1. Tired of mixing fuel so 4-stroke 2. Same to slightly better performance than current motor (same holeshot with more top end speed) 3. Can not go over 120 pounds of motor weight 4. Need control shift throttle box kit to mount on right side of boat. 5. I plan on using the same steering. Looks like I would just have re-mount old stuff into carrying handle of new motor. 6. This is the main power supply and will get lots of hours. 7. Want a Yamaha but would consider other brands as long as other conditions are met and proven reliability. 8. Must be new
Can anybody help?

8 wants, on your part, limits what many people would recommend.
Sounds to me, like you need to "update" your complete setup. What is a "little boat"??????
Why not a larger boat????? Seems to me a "tiller type motor", might be a better type motor......would sure open more options for you.
If you want to stay with your 8 options.....GOOD LUCK !!!! Is this a trailered boat and motor???????

Wow, just be thinking about the "mix oil bit"........all the motors I've bought recently have a "oil reservoir", fill that up......then gas in the gas tank.....mixing is all done by running motor.
14-15 mph---wow, now that's really "hauling ass".....thinking you better "hp down", then for sure you can be under the 120 weight limit.
Hey, take a picture of this boat, post it here.....I wanta see what a "upstream 14-15 mph" boat looks like.

I'm guessing this is for jon boat? I suggest you look at the Yamaha F20SEA remote if you just need a short shaft. The long shaft version, F20LEA, would be just over weight at 121lbs.

Its a 13 ft smokercraft. Speed is the GPS speed over ground (SOG) from my fish finder. It says I'm crusin' at 21 down stream. Not squirrelly or knifey and could handle a little more oomph. It's rated for max hp of 25 but 25's are too heavy.
Oh yeah, forgot, nice reminder slab. It absolutely needs to be a short shaft.
