I spoke to Tim this morning. The advocacy is in the process of sorting thorough the legal options. I can't go into detail, but they have been in conversations with senior leadership at WDFW and with their legal people.
We should be hearing something from The Advocacy soon.
There are many, many eyes on this movement right now. And certainly the agencies are aware that we are not going away, so they are feeling the pressure.

I hope that the citizen of the state will start getting interested in this because when we run out of fish they will be sued by the tribes for loss of habitat and fish. When that happens, and they will win, the only people living here will be the natives. taxes will be so high all of us will have to move. I think this is what they are scheming for. Some body on their side has some very long range vision

Some body on their side has some very long range vision And when that happens it will be tribes against tribes. Already happening up north. Swinomish are trying to enlarge the boundary of their reservation so the Samish tribe, who owns land in this said larger reservation, can't build a casino which would be within 2 miles of the Swinomish casino. http://www.goskagit.com/news/local_news/...1ad03211c4.html

Back when I was involved in State/Tribal issues we knew that the real conflicts were inter-Tribal. Their history, going back centuries, is not always one of peaceful cooperation. Kinda like every other group of humans on the third rock from the sun.

The Snoqualmie-Muckleshoot battle is kind of interesting. The Snoqualmie's were all ready to purchase the Salish Lodge so they had a Destination Resort for the High Rollers etc and the Muckleshoot's with all their $$ came in and beat them out. The power of the Casino $.

Money is the name of the game. I happened to run across a Seattle Times article from July 2006 titled "Tulalip Tribes' clout on the rise." In that article the then tribal treasurer was described as grinning as he riffled through a stack of checks 5 inches high. Those checks were in the amount of $2.3 million and represented the 2% of gambling profits the tribe is required by agreement to donate to off set impacts of their gaming operations. That was $2.3 million representing 2% of profits. If my math is correct that means they made $115,000,000 in profits off of their gaming operations for that year. The article also reported that the tribe estimated its 2005 net income as about $102 million. (Comment: That does not mesh with the $115MM figure above but I am only reciting what is in the article). So, not only does that article provide some otherwise almost impossible to obtain insight into the robust nature of Tulalip business ventures it also provides an understanding of why the tribe is running its current ad campaign touting its donations to the community. It wants to get credit for being a good neighbor but in fact is simply doing what it agreed to do in order to obtain certain operational benefits from a prior Governor.

That is why the state needs to legalize gambling. Level the playing field.

That is why the state needs to legalize gambling. Level the playing field. Agree!! If the State does not want to go back to Federal court utilizing the Supreme Court's economic well being adjustment to the Boldt decision then maybe the threat of leveling the playing field on gaming might be enough leverage to effect some much needed changes.
