Planning to go stand on the bank of the Cowlitz Saturday, up near the dam. Guess I don't get enough of crowds during the week at work. Anyway, wondering if anyone knows how the fishing has been there this week. Also, any tips for a bankie (besides "buy a boat"). Planning to throw spoons & spinners for what's left of the silvers.

Went on Tuesday up to the dam. Fished for 10 hours. Only saw 3 silvers with any size caught up at the deadline by the dam. My buddy and I managed only 3 little dinks that we threw back. I don't know about going up to the dam, maybe the Toutle or Green. I heard (afterward) that the bite doesn't come on until after 5:00 pm and those guys using tiny globs of eggs were mostly sucessful. If you go, I hope you have better luck than I did, which won't be too hard to have. At least the M's won.
I will be going back to my good old spot on the Carbon tonite to forget about the Cow.

Murph,

Silvers will be a bit slow on the Cowlitz until the Columbia gill net show is over. Expect the run to come on strong near the end of this month. Meanwhile, jacks and a few 3 year olds are getting through, but it's spotty.

The Toutle/Green silvers are early run, mostly dark, and have a bad case of lock jaw.

Wish I knew where the silvers are bright and hungry just now, but I don't. Sorry.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

My buddy and I drifted the cowlitz from the barrier dam to mission last friday, and only saw two steelhead and one silver (native) caught. Fish were rolling all over near the boat launch and the first couple of holes down river, but no biters. Fish and game guys that we saw down river said they were getting 700 silvers a day into the hatchery. We managed two hookups, and broke them both off (light line). Probably try again Sunday, too hard headed to quit :0).

Well, I went this morning anyway. Got there about 5:30 (barrier), kind of dark but started fishing in the moonlight. Kind of cool, tranquil. Had the bank to myself. Then, about the time the sun came up I realized I wasn't alone anymore. Good grief! What a mob! I bugged out about 8:00 AM. There were lot's of fish rolling, mostly Kings. Saw a few small Silvers caught by guys drifting eggs. I was tossing spoons & spinners. I did hook one small King, maybe 15 Lbs. Released clean. At least I had one hookup before the crowd showed up. One of these days I'll have the kind of time it takes to go forth & discover my own zipperlip. Sigh.
