Just got word from our hunting grounds that they are indeed up and moving about with this shift in the weather. Hope to hit it for tomorrow evening's sit.

Checking in from Camp Shame. Solo sit #1 of 5 consecutive is in the books. Had a doe and fawn chill for a bit, then a crasher just at dusk. He zigged when I needed him to zag. Oh well. Hopefully we shake hands and draw pistols at dawn.

This upcoming weather system is going to be perfect for the next 2 days. There's a nice wind and a good light rain at the moment and that makes me happy.

BTW - camp is so quiet & chill without Todd and Ryley. I miss em' but this is good too. I am going to do bad things to Todd's sleeping bag.

Tomorrow Morning is up to bat.

Here is a picture of my buddy's 10 year old son and his first deer. We only had two days to hunt this season because Vaughn cant miss his select soccer games and practices so this was a first legal deer program.

Vaughn made a great shot and the spike went about twenty yards before piling up. He was SO excited.

Itll be a good memory for him.

Awesome! My wife took one of our 5 year olds out last night for the last hour. They ended up getting a nice little 2x3! I'm pretty excited for them to head out on their own and have success. The 5 year old had quite the play by play including demonstrating the buck jumping straight in the air then taking off. Demonstrated as only a wildly excited 5 year old could. Too cool!

Wow, really wish I could be out there this year. Driving home I saw another two bucks in yards tonight, both of which were on the move. Saw a few does moving too. One buck was a really nice, the other a typical 2-3 point. Hope you guys that have not scored yet get another night or two to try. It really looks good out there.

No deer were harmed by me this season. Maybe I'll get out late season and give it better effort.

Did any of the island mashers show themselves?

Nada.
I spent a fair amount of time over the weekend and monday night this week walking and in stands and didnt see a deer. Monday I spent nearly 30 minutes goin 100 yards in the woods getting into the stand quietly and early, thinking he might be bedded down nearby. No dice.

That describes the vast majority of my blacktail hunting experience.

Did it seem like the rut was going strong? I didn't see as much activity and rubs this year as I have the last few, but the could just be that I wasn't looking in the right places. Typically there are rubs in the same locations year after year, but I didn't see them in the same spots this year.

I was wondering the same. Last night my wife had to wait while the larger forkhorn (we have two here this year) moved out of the drive way so she could drive her car up to the garage. Nobody seems to be hunting in the neighborhood this year, so I expect some heavy grazing on landscaping this winter.

Is there an extended buck or either sex season? I could possibly tie one up to my mailbox post, if that's convenient enough.

15th - 18th this year. Salmo - if you could get a nice 3 pt. or better tied up, that would be fantastic.

I was fortunate enough to harvest a nice 4x Roosie on the opener last Saturday. Does that count?
