We got the date for the Hotel Impossible show and it will air on January 14th at 10:00 pm on the travel channel.
For those of you who know me, this a a good time to see me get the crap beat out of me for being a bad hotelier and business man!
BUT, they fixed me and also gave us a new web site(live next week), re-modeled one room, built us a mud room to dry waders and cloths and a marketing blitz with Liberty Travel.
Craig Morgan (country singer and outdoor show) also came up and was part of the show so it should be interesting.
We are remodeling the one story rooms now, should be ready by the opener.

That was one helluva project, and those guys worked so many hours to get it done! Kudos to the crew that did the remodel.

I remember heading down from our place for evening dinner and drinks, every now and then... leaving the bar at 11 at night... And those boys were still out there... HARD at work! It turned out great, and I cant wait to see whats next for the 'Bear' this season.

I would love to have you up there Superfly, but I am not sure someone with as big an ego as mine will survive at Glacier Bear Lodge!

The mighty situk is a little different than most rivers, at least how all of the guides go about it anyways. Especially during silver season... Normally we are all dumpin boats in at about the same time, and there is communication between the two lodges, and the guides on the river that day. We like to make sure, every single boat that floats has an opportunity to nail fish. Don, and Eddie, at GBL are great guides, with no ego.

On the river we further the communication, by letting whoever you pass know where, or about where you plan to stop next. It is a perpetual game of leap frog! Its does not work for everyone, but it is a highly effective method of fishing. Even tho you might not get your favorite spot every day, you are still going to be working as a HUGE team to make sure all clients of every outfitter, in the town of Yakutat have a stellar day on the water. Truly a unique expereince.

Just curious, did it cost you to be part of the show? I know that many fishing shows the outfitter/lodge/guide pays to be part of the show. Afterall, it is advertising.

Can't wait to see the episode to see what you're all about.

Cost us nothing but our pride, and that did not take long once the host pointed out what we were doing wrong from his perspective! He beat us up pretty good for the first couple days. Our GM was grinding his teeth but he did not punch the host!

It was all good, this show was very supportive and he really wants the people on the show to survive and be successful.
You will see a new web site starting sometime next week, huge project all given to us by the travel channel.
All the room upgrades and the mud room, they did and paid for!

I would do it again, of course once I see the show and see what a dork I am on camera, maybe I would throw someone else in front of the camera next time!

I know a shot when I see one ! but when you lead from the front in whatever you do there are always going to be those people that are going to snipe at you..........

Having been a member of some very successful teams I know all about teamwork, so much so that I have been trying to implement it down here on some of the crowded rivers I fish with no success and taking alot of fire, mostly by new or out of town guides that just dont want to be a team member and want it all for themselves.

It seems like in the last few years forks has led the way in teamwork with basically an almost boardroom like meeting every morning at the coffee shop... to discuss whos going where and when and what.

When guides work together success for everyone in 10 fold....personally I have seen very little of this when the fish draw the crowds.
Also this exactly the opposite of what I have heard about the Situk.
I have never been there so I would not know first hand, just what my clients who have fished there have told me.
Give me two weeks on any river and I will pretty much have it dialed in......NO EGO ! Just confidence !
I know that I would be an asset to GBL and that is why I have wanted to work there even though it is probably not in the cards......

Peace
Fly

That'll make a pretty good cover letter. But don't think the "will fish for bills" bolsters it too much smile
