Two sets of gear? Slow learner!!
Actually, I have had two instances where young of the year harbor seal pups have followed my skiff to the beach and one I had to push away with an oar. He was way too young to be considered a threat......so he lived another day. Besides, he was just soooo cute.
But on several occasions I have seen Orcas chasing seals. The seals were not so lucky in those encounters.
Having spent many years in "The Golden State" before retiring up to the PNW with my Seattle area bride I had the great pleasure of seeing a few up close and personal paybacks by GWS on the Nor Cal pinniped population! Truly a sight to behold and payback truly is a bit..
Only wish there were a few more located north of "The Red Triangle" to wreak havoc on these overpopulated salmon slayers!
GWS normally show in Nor Cal off SF in early August along the beaches south of SF and work their way northward towards the Farallon Islands. Saw an attack on a early September day off Muir Beach while headed to Duxbury buoy to intercept large Chinook that would stage there on their way up the Sacramento river! Never will forget the hit on that harbor seal as that GWS flipped it in the air and came back to play with it before taking it! Amazing!
Another bit of info on GWS was an incident that took place in September last year off Pier 39 while tourist were astounded as an attack took place in front of tourists eyes right inside of SF Bay!
Makes you think twice about going into the water!
