I am aware of several streams that are closed to fishing for salmon, but remain open to steelhead fishing. Turns out my absolute favorite steelhead set up is also a killer for chums. My question is -Will I be likley to get a ticket if I am fishing in a stream that is closed to salmon fishing if I accidentaly catch a few chums while steelhead fishing?

The spots I am thinking of are filled with hatchery chums, so I feel that accidentally hooking a few of them is no big crime. What do you guys think and what do our game wardens think?

If it is still open to Steelhead then it would be closed to the "retention" of salmon. Meaning if you hook one you must release it unharmed.

I have never used the worm for chums, but bet it would work. A top chum fly is the cerise string leech, which doesn't look that much diffrent from a pink worm.

No, my favorite for steelhead and chums is a flaot and jig. Cerise seems to be tops for chums. Several times I have seen cerise dramatically outfish chartreuse.

Cerise is Hot pink.

I wouldn't stress about getting a ticket for targeting salmon using a float and jig. Now if you try to convince Mr. Game Warden that you are steelheading with a K-15 Kwikfish, then that's a different story.

Pink worms work killer for Chums, but doesn't anything pink/cerise work killer for chums? Put some shrimp oil on the worm and hang on!
