I saw that the Shrimp Fleet was deployed around the Edmonds marina. Were any of you out there? How did it go?

I went out around 9am right in front of the marina, had 3 pots. The first pull on the first pot had 30 shrimp. Then it got bad for me. We shrimped until 2pm, and had 80 total.

So thats 80 shrimp for 2 of us. We were using McKay's pellets and cat food in a bait container that I drilled a bunch of 1/8" holes in. Anyone have any suggestions on what will work better?

We had a shrimpin seminar at our last PSA meeting. The holes in your bait container might be to small. The container the guy had at the seminar had about 3/8" holes to allow for better scent trail. The 1/8" seems a little small from what he was saying.

the wife, my son and I headed out about 2 0clock to the south east side of camino island to set the shrimp pot. it was a great day with flat water and little wind.great day to read a book while waiting to pull pots. we ended up with 2 shrimp for the day. my son eat both of them for dinner. I will try down by edmonds tomorrow morning. if you see us say hi. i will lanch at everret becouse i hate the muckatio ramp. its more gas in my little boat but worth the ease of launching. we used puss and boots cat food in a bottle with holes. i may add some herring jelly to the mix to night. no one up north was doing very good. their were lots of clouds on the depth finder and iam told those are shrimp. paiul how deep where you setting? and what type of boat do you have .

I was actually at the PSA meeting, guess I should have taken notes. I figured it was the hole size while on the water too, since they were getting clogged up. I was just redrilling some of the holes to 1/4" right before I read your post.

I was setting anywhere between 200' - 350' deep trying to find shrimp throughout the day, mostly around 250'.

Several people told me that it was hot early morning, and died down pretty dramatically, so go early tomorrow! I may be out there if I don't feel so sore...

My boat is an unnamed 22' Grady.

Try mixing about a quarter cup of wesson oil per 8 cans of cat food, spoon that into the bait holders. Worked for me, I was 12 short of 3 limits on the first pull. Not too much oil or the bait will be gone too quick.

Paul,
I was at Edmonds yesterday and heard the commercials spent most their time out front of the marina. We tried towards Meadowdale with decent luck. The shrimp were a little deeper than I remember from previous years at around 275 feet. We came up empty at anything less than 250 feet.

Haifisch,

Wow, were you outside of edmonds marina? Someone on a boat told me they did really well across the sound, I'm guessing apple cove.

What kind of consistency do you get from the food / oil? Is it like a paste?

Did ok shrimping today. I took a friend and some kids out. Two pots down around 11 am not too far north of Edmonds in 250' of water and when we pulled them around 1:30 pm we had 120 shrimp big enough to keep. The real news was the two nine-year olds on the boat pulled up one pot by themselves for the first time.

While we were waiting we found some rock fish and ended up bringing three home that were about 2 lbs each. One was a black rock fish - I don't think I've ever caught one before.

I'm glad it didn't rain in the afternoon like the forecast said. It ended up being a great few hours on the water.

Sure hope the season is open at least a couple weekends!

The bait is a little softer then the original consistency, able to stir it with a big spoon. The oil spreads the scent fast, ring that dinner bell... I was in my souper secret spot, no-tellin'...

Starcraf Tom, a Port of Edmonds employee told me the same story about the poacher. 1,800 stuffed in bags and hid in hard to find places, like a dope smuggler...... Somebody must have been watching him and called the poacher line as the agent was waiting for him as his boat was lifted out of the water on the sling.... Greedy guys like that will terminate the season real quickly. That was 225 daily limits, geeeze.......

Went out Sunday from 10 to 4 in the Everett area and got two limits of shrimp. They were all very nice sized. Only had a few that weren't of the large variety. Did the best with the pots that had good old Puss n Boots in them. I did notice that we did the best on the end of the ebb and it really slowed once the flood got moving. I was going to comment on the Fish and Game even before reading about the law breaker above. There was four of them at the docks when we left at 10 and still there when we returned at 4. I've never seen the Fish and Game out like that for any kind of fishing opener. Starcraft, the shrimping will remain open Thursday through Sunday each week until our quota is taken and then they will close it. Last year we got two weekends and I suspect this year won't be much different.

We went Staurday also to a not so secret spot, 70 boats, but I still ain't tellin spot, and got three limits in about 2.5 hours. Better than some, but seem to be about average or slightly better. It really died down after 830.
Man I can not wait to go again though, I can still taste those Bacon wrapped babbies, right off the grill, with a nice tall cold ....

Guess what -- shrimp are quite mobile. There is no such thing as a "secret" shrimp spot.

As an aside, I am so sick of posters bragging about their limits they took from their "secret" "zipper" spots, with no information about how, where, when, etc. It's just juvenile. I got over that in grade school. If you don't want to contribute information, DON'T POST.

If (big if) I ever limit on something, and someone asks, I'll give them time-of-day, gear, technique, and GPS coordinates. I would wish someone else the same good fortune that I had that day.
