Made the trip up to Olympia today. There were many more normal people at the anti 594 rally than the news reports would lead you to believe, but of course, guess who they took pictures of. Probably about 200-250 people in attendance.

During my meeting with Brian Blake this morning, as well as a few others, look for a number of bills to be introduced this session that start chipping away at the weaknesses of I-594.

Specifically:
1. CPL as a waiver for a background check. There are a few ideas being batted around.
2. Transfers within the framework of "hunting" to be defined, like the situation of hunting put and take birds with kids on private property. (no license, hunter ed, or other permissions required)
3. What constitutes a transfer and defining specific timelines
4. Shooting on private property, private range, other places.
5. Defining the phrase "the weapon shall remain there at all times".
6. Defining "other legal entities" in favor of all trusts including firearms trusts.
7. Complete repeal of I-594.
and so on.

Two bills that hit the info sheet today were 1193 and 1245. http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/

There will be more.

The 594 voter ineptitude appears to be in conflict with federal law. Specifically, Title 18 United States Code Section 922(a)(5) wherein "the loan or rental of a firearm to any person for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes" is exempt from the federal statute regarding transfers. If so inclined, seems that a creative mind could do a '594 end run' using this particular statute as a legal basis....

State law can be more restrictive but not less restrictive that Federal Law. (Unless your are taking about MJ)

Thanks for all your time and hard work Andy! I just had my trust resubmitted yesterday...to get my ex's name off of the trust as well to shore up some of the legal speak post-594.

Full repeal - no compromise. That's the thing with these "people" - you give one inch and they want a whole yard. F'em and the Prius's they rode in on.

Nick, you can sh!t in one hand and wish for a repeal in the other. See which one fills up first.

In the mean time we have to deal with reality and take it apart one piece at a time. A legal challenge is under way on parts of it, but there is not sufficient support at this time for a supermajority vote.

Good luck with your efforts though.

...and don't be this guy....

I know Dogfish - its wishful thinking but its how I feel about it. No worries about being that guy. It doesn't help the cause....at all. I do really appreciate all of the hard work you and others have put into this. Please keep chipping away. I don't know how I can help - but if there is a anyway to do so...let me know and count me in. The good guys need to stand up and be counted.

No problems Nick. Pisses me off as well.

Once we get a firm list of bills we'll post up what folks can do and opportunities to speak at hearings if people are so inclined. The biggest help is contacting your reps and senators both in person and by phone. Email is "okay", but they get a ton of email that gets ignored. Still, email them too. They track that stuff.
