I grew some sunflowers for the first time around the perimeter of new chx coop. 5 mammoths that got about 15 - 18' tall with 1 - 2' heads. Plus "snacker" style that get about 10' tall with 1' heads. The "snacker" style spits out really nice shells...well...for snackin' on....er duh.

Of course the birds and critters got to my crop JUST before harvest. I lost about half my yield, so lesson learned. I dried out the whole mammoth heads for muh chickens to peck on and then made roasted seeds from the snackers. First time roasting my own - twas pretty simple. Todd ate some when we went mushroom huntin'. They are really, really tasty IMO. Wish the critters would have left me more, but the tax man gets his share I suppose....
