I was across the river from a “nympher” last Tuesday. From what I could see he was using a fly rod and fly line. He was very proficient at single handed spey casting to effortlessly place the “jig-pattern” fly where it was intended to be. He skillfully mended line to obtain the maximum possible drift. He wasn’t using a slinky though – split shot maybe, but no slinky. However, by his equipment, skill, and demeanor, or rather persistence, I would definitely categorize him as a fly fisherman.
