This statement has been going around the media today. I took this quote from a reuters article.

"The outgoing chief of the U.S. Capitol Police said House of Representatives and Senate security officials had thwarted his efforts to call in the National Guard, contradicting assertions from other officials who said the force had not asked for help."

Key here is the statement that the house of Representatives also hampered it. The Sargent of arms is the head of Security and is elected by the house of Representatives, which is controlled by the house. Does this make Pelosi and other house Democrats racists too? Or does it mean that they too underestimated the potential for violence?

Leave it where it is Todd, a bunch of right wing nut jobs stormed the capital. Were they the majority of the crowd or a minority? I would like to think they were a minority, but that many otherwise half-way sane people were drawn into the melee in the frenzy. For political reasons, those in charge decided to keep down the police presence. There was an article, written during the height of the BLM protests last year that argued that point in describing what happened in Minnesota and other protests that turned into riots. Interestingly enough, he seemed to be arguing that any protest has the potential to be head that way and that police should always be aware that it could happened.
