I double majored in Biology with much of my coursework in fisheries and aquatic ecosystems. It’s a useless degree unless you like to walk streams for $16 an hour or work at a hatchery. It only becomes cool once you’ve obtained a Master’s or Doctorate and you are leading the research vs. being a field grunt. Having a degree in fisheries also doesn’t give you as much street cred as you might think. I’ve met people with degrees in fisheries who could not distinguish between juvenile salmonids during stream surveys.

There are lifetime anglers out there who spend a lot of time on the water and researching in their own who know far more about fisheries science than people with degrees. Just saying...
