Don't discount the "unobtainium factor": the minute a piece of gear is discontinued, the more valuable and effective it becomes - especially if it's replaced by a new and improved model. See: old style wiggle warts, pre-Rapala kwikfish, real cork corkies, Curado BSF's, pre-Shimano G-Loomis rods etc etc

Seems to bite steelhead fishermen worse than anywhere else too. Then there's the "steelhead tax," that $3.99 pack of bass worms becomes a $6.99 pack of steelhead worms if they make them in pink (OK, I haven't bought pink worms in years, they're probably $10.99 a pack now...)
