I can say a lot more than I will because I do not feel that it is worthwhile to try to discuss this matter with people that are predisposed to object to anything and everything that the Indians try to do. I have had like discussions many times on many steambanks.

To you guys who live on the West Side of the mountains, you must be completely oblivious as to how much good the Indians have done for the salmon on the Yakima and Umatilla Rivers. The activities of farmers and ranchers (nearly all non-Indian I will add) had more or less annihilated the salmon on the said rivers. Thanks to the Indian’s threats of litigation based upon their treaties, new hatcheries and irrigation systems were built in the past decade. The last two years have seen excellent salmon returns. All thanks to the Indian’s, for which I am personally grateful!

The operations of Priest Rapids dam kill huge numbers of fish. An estimated 1.6 million salmon smolts were killed this spring alone by the manipulations of the river level. Priest Rapids dam current use as peaking facility causes river level fluctuations of 10 or more feet on a daily basis. If the Indians want to forsake profits for saving salmon, GOOD!!!!!!

I am rather incredulous at the thought that all the Indians care about is money. I have never met a rich Indian. Furthermore, most Indians I have met are making a very poor living. If all the Indians cared about was money, they sure in the hell would not spend any time fishing!!!! I realized a number of years ago that just like us, the Indians love to fish. Furthermore, it is my understanding that before the white people arrived, the salmon were doing quite well.

And for you people who are predisposed to make snide remarks about anything and everything the Indians do no matter how uninformed you are, I’ll say it again => STUPID!!!!!!!
