I met a man on the Cowlitz a couple years ago and he told me he always freezes his fish whole said he's never had freezer burn and the eggs come out just fine when he thaws the fish out.Then he cures his eggs and fishes them they looked great and worked great too.
I've never done it but he swore by it.
