Whoops, I didn't mean to start a He/She, I can do anything better than you, battle.
I was in the Navy for the Korean exercise and the early days of IndoChina/Viet Nam. The closest thing we got to actual combat training was shooting clay pidgeons off the fantail at sea and qualifiying with various small arms. I thought we should have gotten combat infantry training. At least a bit of it. Seventh Fleet did most of its work afloat.
The chow was great.
