I cant answer your on a drift boat but being a retired Bass tourny fisherman, I have tons of experence with electric motors and installing them on different boats. I have had a flat bottom jon boat that I used to fish redsfish in fla with that had a rip tide on it its a ok motor. the biggest problem I see mounting them on a drift boat is I dont believe they come with a break away bracket. this would become a problem if you ran accross a bar or a submerged log. damage to the motor and possibly to the gunnel/transum of the boat.
some one could probly make some money if the designed a spring type break away for transum motor like they have on the bow mounted motors...DJ
