I forgot about these but this is probably what these hooks were designed for. I have a package of VMC trebles that are called open shank. The third hook is brazed on but there is no braze between the two hooks made from a single piece of wire. Consequently you can simply cut the old hook off and slide the new hook in place, without the use of a split-ring.
