I'm conflicted about the gas tax. On one hand I'd like to see a hefty gas tax imposed to fund a really efffective modern transportation system. But since that kind of system continues to be politically untenable, I tend to favor minimal transportation system funding in hopes of achieving gridlock sooner, rather than later, thereby bringing growth to a screeching halt, and giving citizens and politicians both an opportunity to contemplate the foolishness of trying to tweak the status quo, even though transportation engineers and experts know it won't get us from point A to point B.
