It was sarcasm. I try and use it lightly. I would prefer people burn the flag if they would only actually read the US Constitution.

First and most important point: You can't damage what our founding fathers brought forth if someone burned a thousand flags. But the second they change the Constitution to prohibit an act of free speech because it offends their sense of 'patriotism', then truly treasonous damage has been done. It is a paradox that too few understand.

I could cut into pieces a million American flags and it would do nothing to diminish the Values and Rights that are symbolized by its colors. But when a reactionary politico takes advantage of a 'crisis' to abolish at any chance those fundamental values and Rights, guaranteed by our Constitution, then he is truly an enemy of not the State, but of the people it should be serving.

Oh, the rancorous roar. Why surely I allude to our mighty leader. How could I level such charges against a Commander in Chief in time of War? Because I reserve that Right under the First Amendment. And Rights mean nothing if one is not able to freely exercise them.

Honestly the flag means nothing. If you took a random group of 10,000 people, stuck them on an island and gave them Ol' Glory you wouldn't have a representative government. You'd have a crowded island with a pretty flag. Haiti, maybe.

Take those same group of people and give them our founding documents, and if they choose to live by those rules and values you'd have La Isla de Americas.
