Before doing the trainer thing consider going over to Cook Cr or Reecer Canyon (i think those are the names) in Ellensburg. They do the planted birds thing. Getting the dog on one live bird just might click the switch on.
I got my last dog at 20 mos. From the first time she got on live birds she was hooked. Her manors were lacking in the field and blind (my fault) but the drive was unmistakable.
I just picked up a puppy and I'm going to train him myself using Water Dog.
The little bugger pointed on quail the day I was driving home with him (the bitch was a pointing lab). That was cool.
