Wrong, I've caught a dozen or so halibut from 100 to 300 lbs. over the past 20 years and released them all, biggest I ever kept was around 55-60 lbs., just what I prefer to eat.
Some of my clients also choose to release big fish.
Just my $.02 worth

I bet you probably kept one of the first big ones you have ever caught, right Scott? Most folks would.

Brian and I discussed the very topic of releasing a big hen on the way up to Port Townsend Thursday night. I brought it up, and said I think we should consider a release in the event we hooked a big one.

When we did hook one, only our fourth hookup after three days of fishing, all we wanted to do was get it in the boat because we wanted the meat. The topic didn't come up, and that's just the way it went.

We'll honor this fish by eating every last morsel of her, which by the way is premium meat and tastes great.
