I fished 40lb braid lately. I personally just like the way 40lb braid works over 30 and smaller. You don't need to strength by any means, but I like to handle the little bit bigger diameter and I've noticed the 40lb floats and mends easier. Less tip wrap too. It is very hard to wrap your head around using 40+lb braid for steelies though.
