Sounds unanimous on the Spirex series reel. Have all rear drag models, but, for trout, recommend to get the 500 model. The rods I use for trout are ultra lite up to 7', its balanced a lot better. I've tried the 1000 model but is too heavy for the rods unless using a 10'6" noodle then its perfect. Just a quick note that I have bent the shafts on the 2000 & 4000 models on steelies. Works great on locally fished rivers for steelies and silvers. If you do pick up the reel from a local tackle store, ask them if they may might have an additional spare spool they may want to sell for cheap. Doesn't hurt to have to many extras to be more veristile. wink
