Bacota,

I understand the weight problem, but take at least two rods. cause you are sure to break at least one.

Take a look at the fly rods and spinning rods at Compactfishinggear.com. I have an 8wt fly rod that compacts to 18 inches. It isn't as easy to cast as a four or five piece rod, but is tiny and weighs only ounces. I've landed Silver salmon to 16 pounds on their light- medium weight spinning rods.

If you have some way to make contacts with some ex-pats that live in some of the places you hope to end up, you might see if you can't get some gear shipped to those locations.

I know you are primarily interested in fly gear, which is harder to find, but I'd add some spin gear and jigs.

You can make a lot of friends with the natives if you catch and share your catch which can help extend your stay.

A lot of places you'll find the locals fishing with mono wrapped around a pop can as their version spinning tackle.

If you can pack a a couple of spools of 10-20 lb. test mono and a sack full of bait hooks to share with the locals, you may become a hero.
