Have you considered electric? I've heard a lot of guys having issues with the propane smokers not getting down to a low enough temp. I know several guys with the Bradley puck smokers and they love them. Plug it in, load the pucks, set the thermostat and walk away for 8 hours. I'm in the same boat as you, I use charcoal/wood, but when the time comes to do something different, I'll be going electric. Plus, I'm always the guy that runs out of propane with my food half cooked.
