That reminds me of a similar event.

I had set a client's rod on the roof of the boat to net fish before I could re-bait his hook. In my haste, I left the end of the line just touching the water and an over achieving dolly came up and ate the remnants of a bait off the surface, pulling the whole shebang off of the roof of the boat and into the depths below.

An hour or more later another client managed to snag the rig off of the bottom with the dolly still attached. Saved me a few hundred bucks anyhow.
