A couple of summers ago, I was fishing the canyon section of the Kalama River when I was approached by a fisherman who I had observed earlier that morning fishing the run that I was currently on. After exchanging greetings, he inquired about whether or not I had seen a wedding ring anywhere in the vicinity. He then went on to explain that he had caught a couple of steelhead, and that his wedding ring had somehow fallen off while he was cleaning them. I am usually pretty good at finding things in situations and places in which most people would have simply given up. So…After informing him that I had not seen his ring, I offered my assistance. Approximately 10 – 15 minutes later I discovered his ring in the sand next to a river side boulder. He was elated when I presented the ring to him. As a gesture of gratitude, he offered to give me the two steelhead that he had caught. I declined his offer after which, I informed him that he could thank me helping out anyone who he runs across on the river who is in distress.
