I think presidents always get too much blame and too much credit. I can’t see anything Obama can do to lower gas prices. Oil is an international commodity sold on the open market. If BP can get $5 a barrel more selling to Brazil than it can selling it to us they will. That's capitalism and the free market. There is NO estimate of U.S. known or even possible reserves that could significantly affect world prices. Ergo more drilling will not help. We might be able to become a lot more self sufficient if we can find more uses for natural gas, which is abundant.

Bottom line is Bush was only responsible for higher gas prices to the extent the unnecessary war raised supply worries. Obama is only responsible to the extent increasing tensions in Iran have cause worries about supplies. In fact domestic consumption has dropped significantly under Obama, which would matter, if oil was not an international commodity.

Gingrich saying he can lower gas to $2.50 a barrel is pure fantasy.
