You are absolutely right Cabalas does sell them. I was just trying to say that in my experience those magazines they sell are the cheaper ones and the lips are made from such thin metal that they do not feed. I think Cabalas sells the KKK brand. It has to do with the Brady Bill, once it went into affect the manufacturers just pumped out the product with no quality control because they new people would be swarming the store for the product.
Take USA mags for example, I have 2 thirty rounders that function flawlessly. In order to get those I had to buy 6. Only 2 out of the six worked so I returned the other 4.
On today's market you are looking for brands such as Precision Magazine Industries (PMI): These are the good ones. These will be very very very difficult to find in any gun shop. You can find them on some of the Mini 14 forums. Some guys let them go for what they paid for them, which is around $30 before the Brady Bill. However most sell them for what they can get in today's market, which is around $60-100.
The Mini is a great economical gun until you start to find decent mags in today's market was the point I was trying to make.
You said “Now the ruger 10/22 22 lr, for one 25 round buttler creek(spelling) mag, yes, 50 bucks! And thats a good deal to. Most the time there $75 bucks give or take a few bucks.”
Could not agree more. Really gets me how they can get that for a dollars worth of plastic which eventually the feed lips on those also wear out and the mag is junk. I have eight of those butler creek 25 rounders and about half of them jam the last 3-5 rounds or so. Some of them fall out of the gun every once and a while they are getting tired. But then again I have probably pumped 50,000 rounds through my 10/22 at least.
The mini is a great choice and anyone who owns one will love it. I have personally been through mag hell with that gun though.
We should go tear up a gravel pit sometime together.
