Don't know if what I did counts as "fished" for burbot, but I went all set-linning for them in Lake Kaches.

I don't recall how many hooks I was allowed by law at the time, but I basically set a long 100lb. mono line in the lake between two buoys, with baited hooks on the line at set distances. I used herring chunks on for bait on 3/0 octopus hooks.

All the baits were eaten but only managed to bring two fish to the boat, one being a big burbot and the other being a huge squawfish.

If I had to do it again, I'd use circle hooks instead of octopus hooks as I bet more of the fish would have stayed on the hook.

It was something to do while we were camping up there on the lake years ago. Ended up limiting out on kokanees (fish, not the beer) most of the days. K flies tipped with maggots behind a little chrome flasher always get's it done for kokanee.

I think it's been about 20 years for me. Ted Pietsch was the instructor.......he's still at the UW today.
