While my buddy was hunting the late archery hunt with good success he made the cardinal mistake. He legally killed a cow elk. After he got over to her he noticed she had two arrows stuck in her. The one that killed her was his and the other had occurred sometime during the early season archery hunt or before. It was getting late and decided to butcher his prize. No phone on him and he did not know there was a requirement to call. After hours of work he headed back towards where he believed his truck was. When he got to his truck a man was standing there drinking coffee waiting in the rain. It was............... the man waiting for him. He incurred multiple violations starting with unlawfully dispatching a wounded animal. He did not immediately notify the authorities as soon as he discovered it had been shot previously. It just gets uglier from there. He had shot a blacktail the day before legally and processed it in he field. He was in trouble for not leaving positive ID horns or nuts attached to the animal while in the field. They tested the meat from the skull cape at camp and it was the legally harvested blacktail. In the end he had thousands of dollars in fines and up to 4 years in prison coming, but the judge removed everything, but he still lost his sportsman's privileges. The state really needs to simplify our rules. You need to have a law degree to completely understand all the extraneous rules.
