The over $50k is just another way of saying the GOP appeals to old white guys. They are the demographic in the US most likely to have larger than average incomes. And although larger in number than the 1%ers, they have in common with them the attribute of being in the minority. You appear to be missing or avoiding the major weakness of the Rs, they've built a platform of policies that won't and cannot be supported by a majority.

McCain spoke well on this the other day, saying that Hispanics tend to have strong family values, be religious, and hard-working and non-gov't. dependent, so they have much in common with the Rs. However the Rs do all they can to chase away the Hispanic vote with all the self-deportation, build a bigger fence, and putting their relatives on a bus back to Mexico stuff. Latino votes for the taking, yet the GOP lets its teabaggers and religious whackos chase it away.
