Bill Herzog's book on spoon fishing is pretty good.
1.Drift mending ( pulling the spoon back then letting it go slower and deeper all while drifting through a hole is a good tip.

"2.If the spoon wabbles your pulling to hard"

3.Follow the spoon down the drift with your rod tip.
It takes lots of trips to the river to figure out some of this stuff.
spinners as well as spoons need to be fished low and slow (most of the time).
