Fished this morning from 5 to 9 am. No bumps, no bites, nothing. Saw only about 5 smallish kings caught. About 60 to 70 boats between the Slag Pile and the Clay Banks. I was fishing a spatter back hoochie and a Hot Spot off my downrigger. How much leader do you guys generally fish between your hoochie and flasher? I've been told everything from short (27 inches) to long (48 inches). Personally, I seem to do good with about 3 feet. What's been your experience? Also, do you guys always fish your gear right off the bottom? Sometimes I don't. Often I'll be in 120 feet of water and only be down 60 feet. Especially in low light. I often have good results with this set-up. Any comments welcome. Good fishing. Brass

Good post Brassonbrass. All of those questions you ask are right on target. And seeing as I'm in the middle of the world's stinkiest skunk right now, I won't try to reply. I look forward to others' input though....

When I use hoochies I like to go short, two times the flasher length. For spoons, I like three times the flasher length.

All of my measurements depend on trolling speed. If you troll slow you need short leaders. If you troll fast longer leaders are better.

How deep, I think depends on where you are fishing. I don't like to fish in more than 100' of water for migrating kings. Fishing down 80' in 90' of water has been my lucky number at Redondo.

I am sure everyone will have their own measurements.
