A while back I posted about an older Shimano reel I was given by a neighbor, an early 1990's version of the Citica, with 3 ball bearings. The current version has 2.

Well, I sent the reel back to Nutter Rod & Reel , in White GA. They specialize in older Shimanos, so I thought they might have the necessary parts to rebuild the reel. They didn't.

Nutter Rod & Reel sent the reel back to Shimano USA, who in turn replaced the old reel with a brand new Coriolis . I know this reel isn't the fanciest, but it lists for $80.00, a few dollars cheaper than the new version of the Citica.

Anyway, it cost me a total of $21.53 to get a replacement, so I think I'll go ask my neighbor if I can borrow $20 from him. If he says yes, he gets the reel. (just kidding, I'll ask him if he wants the reel, then hit him up for the cash.) wink

It is nice to know that there are companies out there willing to take care of their customers. I thought only Abu GArcia did that, but I am quite pleasanttly surprised!

That is good news.

How did you come across Nutter Rod and Reel? I've got a couple old shimano bantams that are pretty near worn out and the places I've looked in the northwest don't seem to be able to help much as far as a rebuild goes.

What was the downtime like with them being across the country? were they timely?

Eric, save the time and ship it directly to Shimano.

They will fix it/upgrade and send it back.
They always say they are going to bill me but never have, not even for shipping. maybe the warranty is loner then 1 year ....lol

I know my friend got billed(minimal) but worth it.

Shimano sure sounds like it backs it product. That's refreshing. Here's another one for ya.
I bought 3 Okuma Rods and reels from Sportco a year or so ago. One of the reels after 6 months just wasn't working like it should. I took it back to SPortco and before I could finish explaining what the problem was, the slapped a brand spanken new one on the counter for me. Free of Charge! How do you like that!

The whole turnaround time was two weeks. The folks at Shimano USA (CA) told me to check there first. I would have been happy with a rebuild, but was totally surprised by the new reel. From what I figure, nobody held onto the reels for more than a day.

I have received similar service from Abu Garcia/Berkley. I own 10 Abu reels, and normally wouldn't consider another brand, but the price was right, and now I know the service is also top notch at Shimano. I may consider some of their products in the future.

My experience with a "silver" Corsair soured me on their workmanship.

I also don't mind paying for the shipping. Why leave it up to the company to eat that?
