Just bought one at our Costco today. It is a Foodsaver 2490. Packaged up some hamburger and it seems to work well. A couple of different speeds for vacumn settings. Came with 2 rolls of bags and canisters. It will get more use later this fall.

Which ones do you own from Dougcare? There are a few choices. Do you have to use their bags or will any work? Thanks for the info.

Another for DougCare. I have an older model BEST-VAC (not listed), but if it were me, I'd get either the FOOD-VAC or the FAST-VAC. I kinda like the idea of anything commercial grade, so I'd probably get the FAST-VAC. I've always used their bags.

So is the "Deni 1750 Magic Vac Champion" a better unit than the Costco Foodsaver?? I'm looking to get one too, but want to use the foodsaver bags as I have a stockpile of them..... (been using a buddys old Foodsaver but its just about shot...) C/22

I don't know if the Deni is better than Foodsaver as I've never used a Foodsaver. I know it looks and feels like it's much higher quality. I am on my second Deni. The first one my mom had purchased and used five to ten years then gave it to me and I used it over ten years. It still works but is now losing suction if I leave too much water, from rinsing, on the fish. More my fault than the Vac. But, I used that as an excuse to get the new one in the link for Christmas and it's been working great so far. The new one is more complicated but once you get the hang of it it goes fast.

I think the vacuum packer needed is dependent on the amount of packaging you do. I buy the premade Vacstrip bags. I just finished going through my first 600 bags. When we halibut fish or do a major salmon fishing trip with a lot of people, we end up with some major bagging. 100 bags gets eaten up quickly. I just ordered another 600. It takes a lot of extra time to cut and seal bags from rolls with this amount of fish to do, on top of cleanikng and drying the fish for packaging. I go through a food saver every couple of years with hard use. I also have a VacuPak. I think 100 vacstrip bags 11" x 15" are around $40.00 delivered.
The vacstrip bags have a strip that is partially welded into the bags that have dotted welds so it can pull air from everywhere (including the back of the bag) and they work in the food saver too.

By the way a friend has the Cabellas and says it has a 1/4" burn strip to seal. I haven't seen any of the other ones that do this.
