Just bought one at our Costco today. It is a Foodsaver 2490. Packaged up some hamburger and it seems to work well. A couple of different speeds for vacumn settings. Came with 2 rolls of bags and canisters. It will get more use later this fall.

Which ones do you own from Dougcare? There are a few choices. Do you have to use their bags or will any work? Thanks for the info.

Hey, I've got a Costco jobby and it works just fine. SO if you want to start your own vacum packing company, by all means spend the 300 plus up to 1500 dollars on a vacum packer plus your other needed supplies...I'll stick with my 150 dollar machine from Costso that has managed to save fish for more than a year without a hitch.

Another for DougCare.

I have an older model BEST-VAC (not listed), but if it were me, I'd get either the FOOD-VAC or the FAST-VAC.

I kinda like the idea of anything commercial grade, so I'd probably get the FAST-VAC.

I've always used their bags.

You can use any bags but I buy the food saver rolls and cut my own.

$50 cheaper on Amazon

Owned two costco purchased units both have failed. The guy who sold me my new unit showed me the differece in pumps between the foodsaver and a "commercial" model, quite a difference. I seal alot of fish so I needed one that would be reliable. I went with Vacupack and have been pretty satisfied. I did have to replace the foam seal once but it does a nice job.

So is the "Deni 1750 Magic Vac Champion" a better unit than the Costco Foodsaver??

I'm looking to get one too, but want to use the foodsaver bags as I have a stockpile of them..... (been using a buddys old Foodsaver but its just about shot...)

I have their Best Vac, it works great, but I don't think they carry it anymore. I love their bags too. They have a huge variety of sizes and the mico-channel layer inside lets them seal well even with moisture. No more strips of paper towel in your bags.

Cabela's has a good stainless steel model out that works well,I don't have it as my foodsaver professional II works just fine.A buddy has one and it most likely is my next one in line to purchase.Good luck,

I don't know if the Deni is better than Foodsaver as I've never used a Foodsaver. I know it looks and feels like it's much higher quality. I am on my second Deni. The first one my mom had purchased and used five to ten years then gave it to me and I used it over ten years. It still works but is now losing suction if I leave too much water, from rinsing, on the fish. More my fault than the Vac. But, I used that as an excuse to get the new one in the link for Christmas and it's been working great so far. The new one is more complicated but once you get the hang of it it goes fast.

I think the vacuum packer needed is dependent on the amount of packaging you do. I buy the premade Vacstrip bags. I just finished going through my first 600 bags. When we halibut fish or do a major salmon fishing trip with a lot of people, we end up with some major bagging. 100 bags gets eaten up quickly. I just ordered another 600. It takes a lot of extra time to cut and seal bags from rolls with this amount of fish to do, on top of cleanikng and drying the fish for packaging. I go through a food saver every couple of years with hard use. I also have a VacuPak.
I think 100 vacstrip bags 11" x 15" are around $40.00 delivered.

The vacstrip bags have a strip that is partially welded into the bags that have dotted welds so it can pull air from everywhere (including the back of the bag) and they work in the food saver too.

By the way a friend has the Cabellas and says it has a 1/4" burn strip to seal. I haven't seen any of the other ones that do this.

My wife bought me the Cabela's unit ($400 I think) for my birthday, and I am very happy so far. The big seal strip is fool proof. The other thing I like is the size of the seal bar. I can seal two bags at the same time which greatly speeds up the processing time. The bags it uses have a mesh layer inside that is different than the Foodsaver bags. I purchased a grip of pre-made bags, no more cutting bags out of the roll for me.

I've still got my old Costco foodsaver and a bunch of bags, if you want it make me an offer...
