I spent my 4 day holiday weekend painting the interior of my house. After the previous pictures of what some thought was a precarious ladder position, I thought you'd enjoy seeing how I painted the wall in the stairwell. It looks stable and safe enough on the step stool.

But the step stool is on a small piece of plywood supported by 2x6s setting on a saw horse on the landing and the floor of the hallway.

Other than not being secured or fastened, I thought is was within the parameters of a reasonably calculated risk.

So far, so good. No falls for Salmo this day.

Got enough inside painting finished to start the cabinet installation in the kitchen area.

I notice that the flow on the Cowlitz has finally dropped to summer level . . .

OSHA approved scaffolding. I like it.

I was happy to make it through the 4th of July with none of the out of control heathen neighborhood kids catching something on my property on fire of F'n something up with their illegal fireworks, which is more than I can say for where I've lived in years past.

Looks like the photos Bret was clowning you with weren't all that far from what's really going on over there.

Harley,

Those Tevas are my scuzy sandals, but they hurt my feet; the socks help. That make it OK? I don't suffer for fashion.

Hank,

Good one. I'm surprised that so many people don't immediately see the utility of under-cabinet windows to shed natural light on the counter. I put two of 'em in my last kitchen, and they worked out great.

Dan,

At my age I'm startin' to think I'd like to have some golden years, so I try not to get too crazy, but the scaffold does look a bit Rube Goldberg.

The cabinets are far enough along that the counter top folks are coming out Friday to make their template measurements. I should watch real close cuz I can measure three times and still get it wrong.

Nice!

For my stairwells I used my little giant "knock-off" ladder. Glad you didn't fall. It sucks.

I finished up my finish electrical and got all of my stair risers built onto the front and back decks. Oh, and I layed 900 SF of Hardi backer board for the slate we began installing today. Good fun right there.

Nice to know I'm not the only one suffering.

Salmo, your work looks good. I have seen many kitchens, none with windows like that it is kinda interesting though. In my position at work I have to comment on your scaffolding choice.... You only have to take a bad fall once to make all this effort for naught. I have on of those Little Giant knock off ladders like dog fish, perfect for stair work. Consider this a verbal safety warning. the next one will be written and go in your permanent PP safety file. I hope we are clear on this....

Rocket Red says that safety is for those that don't know what they're doing.

Amen. I've said that to my wife at least 400 times.

Most recently when I rode a "Rip Stick" down a long hill at the Warrenton KOA. I figured after 5 minutes of messing around on flat ground I had it squared away enough to ride it at 25 mph. I was right, I survived, thus proving the rule.

Although it was impossible to hide the fear in my eyes.
