Anybody can be called a wingnut by another persons perspective. I'm sure someone calls Bill Sedivy and Jim Wells a wing nut also. But who cares.

Wingnuts with a history of legal problems dogging them.

Plenty of choices out there for initiative management firms, and CCA leadership chooses CommonSense Oregon, the one with the most legal baggage and worst reputations among the most voters. Unbelievable!

IF this even gets to the voters, the gillnetters won't even have to fight the question of gillnetting.... they'll just make it question of weirdo Loren Parks and his gang, and their out-of-state money. Voters will reflexively vote NO. Just like in the recent past when defeating Park's backed measures.

Beyond the voters,,,, CCA's association with these people will not go over well with the large majority of Oregon Legislators who despise the Loren Parks gang.

You could fill this board with all the crap out there on this bunch.

Here's just a tiny preview of what the opposition can potentially hang on Measure 74, and then ask the public -- "Do you want to vote for these nuts?"

**************************
Kevin Mannix and the Millionaire Sex Weirdo

According to an Oregonian story last November 30th by Jeff Mapes (no longer online) and the Money in State Politics database, millionaire Loren Parks basically bankrolled Mannix’s losing campaigns for AG in 2000 and governor in 2002.

Parks gave Mannix $350,000 for his governor’s race, $310,000 for an AG run and $361,800 to Mannix’s law firm (which then turned around and paid Mannix $327,000 for “research.” As David Sarasohn pointed out in a column in 2002, the Republican candidate has become Park’s “Million-dollar Mannix.”

In the article last fall, Mannix spokesman Jack Kane would not reveal how much Parks has given Mannix since then.

It’s a strange relationship, made even more strange by Park’s interest in – and there is no other way to describe it - sexual weirdness. How does Mannix, a social and religious conservative, reconcile himself to Park’s proclivities?

Have you guys checked out his website: psychresearch.com? It's got audio files you can listen to online to help cure everything from dyslexia to fear-of-flying to sexual frustration and erectile dysfunction. It's also got WAY too much personal information about his own sex life, including his claim that one of his sexual partners once climaxed 57 times in a row.

It’s just bizarre. And yet, Mannix has accepted well over a million bucks from this weirdo.

The good news is, of course, that Parks has been backing losers. Mannix lost and so did the two “judicial reform” measures Parks paid nearly a million dollars for in 2002. As Sarasohn pointed out, Park’s interest in the judiciary seemed to increase after he was sued for sexual harassment by a former employee. Willamette Week has all the juicy details. And photos.

Now Parks is back, sprinkling money around to Oregon’s right-wing supplicants like a deranged rich uncle. He’s supporting Sizemore again. He’s supporting Russ Walker. Two other supposed social conservatives. But as we've learned, it’s all about the money.

Here’s what Loren Parks isn’t supporting: anything that would make lives better for average Oregonians or solve any of the real problems in our state. Of course, what does he care? He lives in Nevada.

Yes we have all seen it, now Oregons Attorney General needs to rewrite it so we don't end up in constant litgation with the tribes. I think they have intill the 9th to hand it back to Oregon CCA in the new and improved version.

The process does not work that way. The Secretary of State's office doesn't serve as a 'editor' of initiatives. It's up to the proponent (CCA) to make sure it's in sound legal form.

All that is being debated now and what the Sec.of State's office has the discretion to amend is the ballot title and the summary description -- (because those two items were drafted by the State.) Nothing else.

The Sec. of State will not change or edit the initiative's text.

CCA does have the option to withdraw the initiative.

This excerpt from the Columbia Basin Bulletin is a very good summary of the process:

......... The Oregon Attorney General's Office has until Feb. 9 to issue a "certified" ballot title and respond to comments received regarding its "draft ballot title" for the proposal spearheaded by CCA Oregon.

The public comments were directed to the Office of the Secretary of State and processed by its Elections Division. Oregon law requires that the Secretary of State to field comments on whether a draft ballot title is within legal standards and whether the proposed initiative complies with procedural constitutional requires for submission of petitions.

A total of 119 pages of comments were received from commercial fishermen and fish buying and processing representatives, tribal entities and supporters of the proposal. The deadline for filing comments was Monday (Jan25).

After a "certified" ballot title is issued by the Attorney General's Office, anyone who submitted comments and remains dissatisfied can present its legal arguments to the Oregon Supreme Court and ask for a different title. Petitions to the court must be filed within 10 days after the final ballot title is issued.

The court is required by state law to "act expeditiously" when it receives such a petition. In the past the court response has come anywhere from 6-8 weeks to 6 months after it receives the petition, according to Elections Division officials.

Once the process is completed, including the disposition of any petitions to the court, CCA Oregon could begin collecting the 82,769 voter signatures necessary to get the initiative on the Nov. 2 general election ballot. Those signatures must be delivered to the Elections Division by July 2. ............
