I think I used a size 8 or 10 the last time I bought them. Don't skimp here....Make sure you use a quality american made swivel that's not named Vision. I've recently lost a few fish to Vision swivels where they pulled apart on fish I would have loved to have had to hand. Instead, there's a few fish swimming around on the OP with a hook and half-swivel hanging out of their mouth!

I have never had a problem with Vision swivels. As for hooks, Gami or Owner nothing else.

Yep, those on the line end and just a split ring on the hook end for me. Sometimes a McMahon or Crane depending on what's around. I also like Rosco USA snap swivels in size 10 for spinners.....prolly use more of those than any other swivel. If I lived further north I'm sure that I would have to use 7's I do use crap, unrated swivels for non-critical stuff like weight . rvrfshr Yes, it is another brainfvck. Have a swig will ya ?

nope a swivel off the back split ring with a siwash off the swivel. i've hooked a couple fish on spoons and they all threw the hook. i was thinking a swivel between the hook and spoon would give them less leverage to toss my gear.

[/quote] I can't say I have ever seen a steelhead or salmon throw a siwash except at our feet, all we use is 2/5 to 1/2 oz. spoons and size 3 and 4 spinners with split ring to the old rvrfshr hooks and the oems. Not sure if its the design or pure luck but both styles dig way in. Maybe, and don't get me wrong(I am no expert although my signature says different) but are you keeping alot of tension on the fish? I am kind of curious on this now, as it seems every once in a while someone comes along and brings up hook to land ratios.

not sure if i'm keeping too much tension or not kinda new to steely fishing (bout a year and a half) and really new to tossin' spoons. i dont have problems losing fish with jigs or drift fishing.
i would've said "spit the hook" but the last one that got off was about 8 feet of my ankles and i saw him shake his head "NO" and my spoon drifting past him.
