I have several boxes of pretty old shotgun shells. I'm guessing they are 30 years old. They are paper shells. Are they worth anythng to a collector? If not are they safe to use? If not how can I properly dispose of them?

Check out Gunsamerica.com and look under collectable cartridges. Might be some listed there to give you an idea of their worth or lack of it. Bill

Inspect the shells closely.
Look for corrosion around the primer and discoloration of the shell. I assume the shell body is paper.

Ive shot alot of ancient paper shells, including 3" .00 buck, never had any problem.

Non-corrosive munitions have a shelf life of 75 years if properly stored, corrosive up to 100 years or more.

Toss 'em in the camp fire on your next outing.

Fun to watch people jump for cover not knowing that the paper is gonna melt way before the primer cooks off.

If you want to dispose of them, you can cut the shell just above the brass and the powder will pour out. The powder can be burned safely outdoors (it will burn, not explode) or just spread in your garden as fertilizer. If you are not comfortable chucking the rest in the garbage, you can put the brass in a shotgun and pop the primer, then throw it away.
