If it were convenient to post photos I'd post some of my house as an example of the craftsmanship of a scab DIYer whose step-father was a union carpenter.

I worked at a pre-fab housing mill for a while when I was in college. I wasn't in a union, but the mill had some kind of special arrangement with the union. Not really sure what that meant, but one day another student and I suddenly were laid off . . . because the order of 500 homes we were right in the middle of "was just about finished" according to our foreman.

JF C this thread has gone completely in the stoopid tank.
We all know that you can't fix stoopid and you also cannot fix dumfukery.

Damn, there are a lot of dumfuks in the wild.
And it's really too bad that so many do not understand how the trades take care of business....it's 180 degrees from what's been posted.
No one is protected....you earn your keep every day.
(must be some big secret or something)

If you're a slacker, have weak skills etc. you are gone, instantly.
In my experience it's the best of both worlds.

Ooh, that's a technical one. Not much room to swing a hatchet. Advantage possum.

That's a new one for me. I've never heard of that happening.

Yep, apparently another a big secret.
If you have menial tasks to do where a journeyman is not needed, you hire an apprentice who might cost you 60% of scale.
There is no tenure thing.

That dumfukker would get nailed down to the deck with the 16d nailer like Jesus Christ and then peed on !
It would be a gruesome sight.

No...that is incorrect.
Maybe some other union ?

There is an "Out-of Work" list.
You get on the list and work your way up....if you can wait.
A lot of guys just go out and scare up their own work.
I've never been hired "out of the hall".

Just recently got the band back together...
Three guys that worked together for another company are reunited in 2014.
It will be a good summer...bobbin' and weavin' and rockin' in the free world.
I'm 22 all over again....pumpin' wood, bangin' nails and pourin' concrete.
It doesn't get any better....except maybe some Fridays off so I can do battle with Mr. Big on the Mighty D.

I'm a lucky fukker.

Negative.

The only thing that could move #2 up to #1 would be certified skills or type of work preference.

If a contractor at Intel needs a clean room guy and #2 has completed clean room training, while #1 is a concrete guy, #2 gets the call.

Correct.

I could pull the plug now, but I love what I do and I still feel 100% physically.

Spoken like a burnout getting back into the ring again... Nothing wrong with that though. The younger degenerates can't hold a job or get up before noon thirty, so go kick some ass.

Morons and regular folk; lets not confuse the two. Both dumbass's in your book I presume? Hate to slow walk you to some kind of epiphany but your just another 9-5, probably two fish a year clown dangling his half brain on the net, hoping for a bite like the rest of us grin

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I did not know there was such hostility between union and non-union carpenters.

The best part was the state worker giving union workers a hard time.

This thread just

continues

to

deliver.

Wow, I hadn't touched this thread since I have a job and didn't read past the title. I would've been ripped off in life had I not decided to take this little journey. I literally laughed out loud a few times.

At one point I considered lending Evo a couple hundred bucks, that way we would never hear from him again.

Carry on.

That is a piss poor excuse! Two jobs and Redhook have been blowing this thread apart since day one, and everybody knows how busy they are.
