this is from his son....  Ben Haggard 53 mins · A week ago dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn't wrong. A hour ago he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends. He loved everything about life and he loved that everyone of you gave him a chance with his music. He wasn't just a country singer.. He was the best country singer that ever lived.

RIP Merle. One of the original outlaws and an all around great musical talent! I'm a huge DAC, Marty Robbins, Gene Watson old country fan. I listen to AM 1520 almost exclusively. New country isn't country.

Merle's passing reminds me of '65, being 19 in Japan in the Navy, sitting on the back steps of a shipmate's family rental drinking Jim Beam & listening to Merle, Buck Owens & other cw musicians of the time. We got his Japanese landlord drunk & in trouble with his wife a couple of times. He loved country music but did have any. We gave him some cw lps when we shipped out.

My father took me to a MH concert in Seattle in the 90's. I was reluctant, but the guy could sing and every song had a story we all could relate to. Some days, when the world is beating me up, I remember the lyrics to "Big City" and I feel better....RIP Mr. Haggard.

More than likely a drug overdose. prince was one of the cleanest living entertainers out there. i'm 99.9% certain this is not drug(illegal recreational drug) related. .01% thinking this is drug related. here's my theory. prince may added a few glasses of wine with a couple oxycontins. I know of 2 people who have died this way.
