I have a '99 4Runner with Michelin AT tires. The biggest AT tires Costco would put on a 4Runner. It's old, but it's a 'yota with 126K on the odo. It should last me at least another 150K. I've never been stuck in the mud or snow. I've never lost control of that thing in the mud or snow. When folks are pulled over on 50 or 80 putting on their chains, I'm whizzing right by 'em.

One part about it I like is I don't have to get out and lock the hubs to put it in 4WD. I went to college to learn how to push buttons and I can push that 4WD button right in the cab. thumbs


You'll pull an easy 200k more out of that thing if you do the timing belt. My Tacoma is pretty easy to drive in the snow and ice and I think it's the same chassis as your 4Runner. I only used 4wd in this last storm to get up the driveway into the garage one day. Didn't need it the rest of the time.
