I think the closures are more for the tribes to catch more chinook in their gillnets. Like I think someone said (CM or Smalma ?) said a while back. The long range plan of the tribes is to eliminate chinook sportfishing in Puget Sound. The Sound chinook seasons are smaller each year. In Area 11 where I live and fish, for chinook we are on 4 day open and 3 days closed season each week (when it is open). Wed-Sat open. Sun-Tues closed. That is the same days open and closed for the in river sportfishery in the Puyallup River. So, as you can see the tribe nets Sun-Tues. During those three days there will be no sportfishing in Area 11 in the salt or in the river. Therefore, the Puyallup tribe will have no competition for the fish during their netting days. Hence. more fish for them.
